The 3-month compliance window for social media platforms set by the Centre ends today, on May 25. The Centre had announced rules for these platforms, which have a user base of over 50 lakh in India, on February 25. A majority of the social media giants have not complied with the rules. According to sources, if the companies don’t send compliance reports by may 25, the Centre would consider them to have “forfeited their status as an intermediary”.
