Tripura state is trying its best to take maximum benefit of the market situation following the decision of the Government of India to hike its import duty on raw bamboo round sticks used for producing incense sticks. Tripura was once amongst the top Indian states in the production of bamboo sticks. With the heavy import of items from Vietnam and China, which are comparatively cheaper, the state lost its market share for many years. Various projects have been initiated like the North East Council (NEC) sponsored Revival of Bamboo Agarbati Cluster and under which three units are being set up at Kumarghat in northern Tripura to boost the production.
